“For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal.” - Job 5:18

On a sunny day, lights that are on are hardly noticable unless we look at the bulb directly. This is because - for an obvious reason - the surroundings are already bright.  

In our daily lives, we do not sometimes notice God (i.e., bulb) when everything in life is going smoothly (i.e., sunny day). It is only when we are in difficult times (i.e., when everything is dark) that we see or think of Him because we know that He is the only one who could shed light in whatever hardships we are going through.  It is when we experience pain that we only sometimes call on Him. Pain - as written in the second verse of the song - is just like a reminder that we need God and we cannot live without Him.

In another perspective, it is also through pain that we realize what comfort is all about. Come to think of it: how would we know what happiness is if we have never experienced loneliness? The refrain of the song says, it is through pain that we only sometimes come to our senses.

If God is in our hearts, we could probably say that pain is good. But we would rather remember God always than remember Him only when there is pain.

PAIN

I used to think that life is pain and sorrow

I used to cry when I think about the past

I never thought that there is love around me

I even thought of ending life

thinking it’s the best thing I can do

’till I met You Lord
